ProGuard-3S (Standard Spec)
Principle of Operation:
This full range three-circuit engine protection device is designed to cover majority of the existing vehicles. It can be installed on any engine type and size. It monitors coolant temperature, oil pressure using an external N.O. oil pressure switch (manufactured by Honeywell - USA) and coolant level. The device is powered from IGNITION positive terminal. It has intelligent software, which performs a routine check for tampering of the oil pressure and temperature circuits on power ON time. In such event, the module will not allow starting of the engine. Unit uses a starter voltage pulse or RPM signal source for detecting the start of the engine.
On power ON – the unit provides a single beep and the red LED for oil pressure, engine temperature, orange LED for water level and green OK LED flash once shortly.
On engine start – it provides two short beeps and the red "OIL PRESS." LED is illuminated for the first 5 seconds. The unit does not monitor the oil pressure during the first 5 seconds after engine start, providing time for the engine to build up oil pressure, but does monitor the engine temperature and coolant level. At the end of this 5 seconds period, if the oil pressure is above the switch threshold (normally 0,7bar), the red "OIL PRESS." LED will go OFF and the green "OK" LED will be illuminated. The module reads oil pressure switch, temperature probe and coolant level probe (switch) every ½ second.
In event of high engine temperature (above 97°C): the device will provide an interrupted audio visual warning (the red LED on the display marked “ENGINE TEMP.” will be flashing) until the temperature drops below the warning threshold. If the coolant temperature keeps rising and crosses the cut-off threshold (102°C), the module will cut OFF the engine and the alarm will sound continuously for 15 seconds and thereafter will provide three short beeps every 15 seconds until ignition is turned OFF. The engine can be restarted only when the temperature drops below the warning threshold (97°C).
In event of low oil pressure: the device will provide an interrupted audio and visual warning for 5 seconds (the red LED on the display marked “OIL PRESS.” will be flashing) prior cutting OFF the engine. After engine cuts-off the audio alarm will sound continuously for 15 seconds and thereafter will provide three short beeps every 15 seconds until ignition is turned OFF. The engine can be restarted immediately, providing the oil pressure is normal, otherwise the unit will shut the engine OFF again.
In event of low coolant level: the device will not trigger alarm for the first 5 seconds after detects low coolant level. This is provided to accommodate splashing of the coolant on the edge of the monitored level. But if the coolant level drops and does not recover for more than 5 seconds, the device will provide an interrupted audio and visual warning for additional 30 seconds. this is to provide enough time for driver to pull out of the road and check the coolant level. Since the low coolant level does not cause immediate damage to the engine, it is save not to cut it off immediately. However, if the driver does not respond to the warning, at end of 30 seconds period the device will cut-off the engine. The engine can be restarted immediately, but if the coolant level is still low, it will be cut-off again.
